Discover the Stories That Change How You See the World |
Replace Scrolling with Stories
“Those few minutes together may become the most meaningful part of the day.”
In a world of endless scrolling and heavy headlines, Kindness Heroes offers short, uplifting stories with questions designed to connect generations.
The conversations are life-changing.
For example: One mother keeps a copy of Kindness Heroes in her car.
Whenever she and her teenagers are driving somewhere, they read one short story together. Then they talk. For a few minutes . . .the phones disappear. Real conversations begin.
We’ve heard from grandparents reading it with grandchildren, teachers using it during Morning Meetings, counselors sharing it in Community Circles, book clubs discussing the kindness questions, and families making it part of their dinner table conversations.
What began as a book has quietly become a tool for connection.

Kindness Heroes is a heartwarming collection of true stories about ordinary people making an extraordinary difference through simple acts of compassion.
| One Story | One Conversation | One Ripple |
| 📖 Read one story. (2–3 minutes) |

More than Inspiration
Kindness Heroes began as a collection of true stories celebrating recipients of Matt’s Kindness Ripples On Kindness Awards and Grants.
Today it’s become something even bigger.
Families are using it to reconnect.
Teachers are using it to teach empathy and character.
Readers are using it as a reminder that goodness still exists—and that each of us has the power to create more of it.
How Readers are Using Kindness Heroes
“I keep a copy in my car. It’s one of the few things that gets my teenagers to put their phones down.”
“My grandson was discouraged by all the negativity in the world. I asked him to read just two stories. He came back and said, ‘Wow . . . there really are good people in the world.’ Then he asked if he could keep the book.”
“We’ve started reading one story together before dinner every night.”
“I take a copy with me every time I visit my mom in her senior living community. We’d run out of things to talk about, but now we read one story together and spend the rest of our visit talking about it.”
“Reading one story with my grandchildren has become our new tradition. The stories are short enough to keep their attention, but the conversations last much longer.”
“Whenever the news feels overwhelming, I read one story from Kindness Heroes. It reminds me there are still good people quietly making the world better.”
“Instead of scrolling on our phones before bed, we’ve started reading one story together each night.”

About the Author

I’m a blogger, author, and founder of Matt’s Kindness Ripples On (MKRO), but at heart, I’m someone who believes life is best enjoyed outdoors, laughing often, and staying curious. My husband, Ron, and I live on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, where you’ll find us playing pickleball, biking, boating, or soaking up as much time in nature as possible. We also love to travel, especially to beautiful Boulder, Colorado, where hiking in the mountains and spending time with our son Brian fills my heart.
Nature is where I feel most grounded and most connected, both to the world around me and to my son Matt, who passed away in 2017. After losing him, I created Matt’s Kindness Ripples On as a way to keep his generous spirit alive. What started from grief has grown into a mission filled with hope: celebrating kindness and inspiring small acts that create meaningful ripple effects. Carrying forward Matt’s spirit and seeing the kindness done in his name brings me deep joy, knowing his ripple continues to move through the world.

When I’m not writing or spreading kindness, I’m probably laughing with friends, cuddling dogs, reading something inspiring, eating chocolate (often), or enjoying a well-earned glass of wine. I believe kindness should feel natural, joy should be part of everyday life, and that even the smallest ripple can change everything.

A Mission With Heart
